Program Summary

Machining Technology provides students with exposure to various occupations and pathways in the Advanced Manufacturing career cluster. Throughout this program, students learn to use a variety of hand tools, power tools, computer-assisted and manually-operated machines, and welders to complete assignments and projects. Students develop an understanding of the general steps involved in the manufacturing process and master the essential skills to be an effective team member in a manufacturing production setting.

Career Opportunities

For the Machine Tool certificate most students with this credential go to work at local machine shops or in an industrial settings. However, Eastman requires students be enrolled in the associate degree program in Machine Tool for participation in their co-op/trainee program. All courses in the Machine Tool Operations certificate program articulate into the associate of applied science degree program in industrial technology; with machine tool concentration. The certificate and degree prepare individuals for employment as machinists and CNC programmers/operators. With this type of training, individuals can set up and operate a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments out of metal. They can also fabricate or modify parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines. On average, machinists in our area earn $46,640 annually. According to My Next Move, the outlook for computer numerically controlled tool programmers is bright, and new job opportunities are very likely in the future.
